On the one hand, the book of Daniel is more or less friendly to foreigners. It shows Nebuchadnezzar commending the Most High God to the whole world in 4:1–3. Daniel seems to have had a heartfelt concern for the king (4:19). Darius (6:14) made every effort to save Daniel, and was so distressed at Daniel’s predicament that he could not sleep.
